Year 3 Places

Applying for a Junior Place (Year 3)

We pride ourselves on our exceptional academic and personal curriculums, which are designed to provide your child with the skills and confidence to achieve their best during their learning journey with us; as well as at home and in future settings.

We passionately believe that all children, whatever their individual circumstances, should feel secure, included, valued and challenged in all aspects of school life.

Our curriculum gives children hands-on learning so they can do more than just listen, think and respond - our children become individuals who are focused, curious, creative, independent, self-managed, resilient, empathetic, and reflective; as we believe these attributes are the keys to success.

We will work with your child's previous school to ensure consistency in their learning journey.

Our aim is to make your child's school experience magical and memorable; creating a positive and nurturing environment that will support them as they grow and learn.

When and how do I apply?

Hampshire County Council administer the school applications process, and you can apply for a place from the start of November to mid-January, for your child to start school in the following September. You can view the exact opening and closing dates on their website.

All applications we receive will be treated and ranked equally based on the criteria in our Admissions Policy.

Timetable for admissions

September-December

1. Visit us, and apply for a school place.

We hold Open Day and Evening sessions for families to tour the school and see all we have to offer. We can also arrange an informal chat over the phone or on Teams if you can't make any of these sessions.

If you like what you see, add us as one of your three choices for a school place on the application form (hopefully, we will be your first choice!)

Applications open at the start of November. We recommend getting it done before Christmas, so you can enjoy the festive season without it weighing on your mind!

January-March

2. The wait begins ...

Applications close in mid-January.

Between then and April, we will be reviewing all applications and ranking them based on our admission criteria.

April

3. Offer day ...

In mid-April, you'll receive an email confirming if you have been successful in securing a place at your chosen school. Or you can log into the Hampshire Admissions Portal to view the decision.

If you didn't provide them with an email address, a letter will be sent instead (which may take a few days to arrive).

May

We'll be in touch...

We will write to you with lots of information and key dates.

If you're unhappy with the decision you've received, and wish to lodge an appeal, you must do this with Hampshire County Council's Admissions Team. Click here for more information.

August

Enjoy the summer!

Get your uniform, have fun putting it on and wear those shoes in, before the first day!

September

The first day of school...

Your child will be introduced to the new Year 3 class and assigned a 'buddy' to show them where to put their lunchboxes, their lockers etc.

The majority of the new Year 3 children will have come from our previous Year 2 class, as we are a primary school. Although they will be familiar with the school and its layout, there will be some differences in their daily routine; so they will also be 'finding their feet'.

September 2025 Starters

For new families who are not yet enrolled, please use this email address for correspondence: admissions@oakfield.academy

We do welcome children from outside our catchment area if we have sufficient places.

All applications received by January 2025 will be treated and ranked equally based on the criteria in the policy.

Although we are an academy, we still work with Hampshire County Council to coordinate school admissions. We work to their Key Dates which can be found here.
