Events 23-24
There's always lots going on at Oakfield ...
Macmillan Coffee Afternoon
We held a coffee and cake afternoon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support with parents and staff donating cakes.
The School Council worked with Miss Bray and Mrs Light-Rowsell to plan the event, inviting local residents and sorting out refreshments. On the day they were involved with setting everything up, making decorations, welcoming visitors and ensuring the milk was replenished! They raised £216.52!
Reading Celebration
To celebrate the amount of reading our children did over the summer, we held a Reading Celebration. The children chose a story to listen to and then took part in a craft activity. This was followed by an ice lolly and extra playtime!
Harvest Festival
What a fantastic celebration we had for our Harvest Festival! It was lovely to see so many parents join the whole school at Testwood Baptist Church. Thank you to our wonderful children who amazed us with their fantastic harvest themed learning - they were all superstars. A special shout out to our School Ambassadors for leading the celebration. Thank you to everyone who donated to the Basics Bank - we are so lucky to be part of such a generous community.
Remembrance Day
Our KS2 class ambassadors along with our school ambassadors paid their respects at Totton memorial. Our school ambassadors read 'In Flanders Field' followed by the laying of a wreath and a two minute silence. The children were very respectful, particularly when listening to a veteran telling them what remembrance means to him. Back in school, the children had an assembly and shared their poppy art work.
Bedtime Stories
We held our Bedtimes Stories event. Children came back to school in their pyjamas for a story, hot chocolate and biscuit. There was an opportunity to shop at the Scholastic Book Fair and we also had a book swap for adults. Well done to our book token winners!
Children in Need
We came to school in our PJs on Friday for Children in Need (as voted for by the children). There were Pudsey-based activities during the day and the children had a Pudsey cake at lunchtime.
Christmas Activities
We've had lots of Christmas events happening in school. These included: our School Ambassadors choosing the Christmas Tree, making tree decorations, Year R-2 performing their Nativity, Year R's walk to the post box, the whole school watching Beauty and the Beast, making Christingles for our Christingle Service, Years 3 and 4 going to the Christmas Experience at Testwood Baptist Church, a Whole School Film and Christmas Dinner Day.
World Book Day
We had a great time celebrating World Book Day! The children came to school in fantastic costumes. Everyone took part in a costume parade in the hall. There were then activities in class such as; writing stories, creating book buddies, creating story finger puppets and even sorting class book cases ready to decorate. There was also DEAR (Drop everything and read)! At lunchtime there was a treasure hunt in the playgrounds with prizes.
Mother's Day Breakfast
We held our Mother's Day Breakfast! Lots of Mums, Nans, Dads and other caregivers came along for a drink and a pastry.
Red Nose Day
Everyone wore red to school and activities were on offer at lunchtime. We had 'Pin the red nose on the Oakfield Owl' and 'Get the red nose in a cup' indoors. On the playground we had a basketball challenge and 'Find the red noses' (orienteering).
Holi
What a colourful day we had, celebrating the Hindu festival of Holi! Our morning started with an assembly put together by some Year 5 children, sharing the meaning of Holi to the rest of the school. The children then had the best time taking part in the colour throw with their friends on the field.
Science Fair
What a successful Science Fair! It was lovely to see so many children sharing their experiments and findings. We also had videos sent in from experiments carried out at home. The enthusiasm for science was wonderful to see.
Father's Day Breakfast
We had Dads, Grandads, Mums and other carers along for our Father's Day Breakfast!
Sports Day
We had a great time at Sports Day! This was followed by Oakfest, an event organised by the PTA.
